A youth who was arrested following the brutal stabbing of a 17-year-old boy in Ireland on Saturday has been charged for the attack and then released on bail. A second youth was also arrested in connection with the assault, but later released without charge.
The assault took place in the Waterpark area of Carrigaline, County Cork between 10 and 10:30 PM on Saturday night. The boy was apparently out with friends when another group of people tried to steal his mobile phone. A fight ensued, and the boy was severely injured with a broken bottle. He was hospitalised with multiple stab wounds, as previously reported by Voice of Europe.
The injured boy was stabilised and has since been released. He is now at home recovering with his family, according to a report by Cork Beo.
A 17-year-old was arrested by police shortly after the incident and was charged with robbery and assault in the Cork District Court. He has since been released on bail on the condition that he stay off social media. He will make another appearance in Cork Children’s Court next month, according to a report by The Irish Examiner.
A second youth, 15, was arrested at his home on Tuesday in connection with the assault. He was taken in by police for questioning. He was released that evening without being charged, however. His testimony is being given to the Public Prosecutions Office.
Two other teenaged male youths have also been questioned regarding the affair.
The Gardaí, or the Irish police, are continuing to investigate the incident, and are focusing in particular on surveillance camera footage. They have repeated their request for anyone with relevant information about the incident to contact them, especially if someone has any video of the Waterpark area from the time of the attack. Those with information are asked to contact Togher Garda Station at 021 494 7120, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
