Matthew McConaughey: ‘Far Left,’ Hollywood Is ‘Arrogant Towards That Other 50%’

Actor Matthew McConaughey slammed the “illiberal left” for acting “arrogant” toward conservatives and cutting off any chance of dialogue by throwing insults.

McConaughey sat down for an interview with English comedian Russell Brand for an episode of Brand’s podcast “Under the Skin.” Brand put a segment of McConaughey’s interview on Instagram earlier this week.

Throughout the segment, McConaughey focused on trying to get people across the political aisle to move to the center. He took shots at the Right, as well, saying they believed in “fake news.” He said that the “far Left” has driven people on the Right away.

“Look, on the other side, on the far Left … there is a lot on that illiberal Left that absolutely condescend, patronize, or are arrogant towards that other 50%. Many people who are in – I’m sure you saw it – in our industry, when Trump was voted in four years ago, they were in denial that it was real, and some of them were in absolute denial.”

McConaughey then said that the Right is experiencing a similar feeling of denial over the 2020 election. “It looks like Biden’s our guy,” the actor said. He then said that the Left cuts off any chance of working with people on the Right by behaving in an insulting manner.

“This is where the Left misses it for me, just as far as being a marketeer of a political side. When you say, ‘Hey, we want to get out the vote; we want people to be able to go vote; we’re going to do a campaign to let people vote.’ I’m like, 100%. Yes, everyone. Is there anyone who would say no to that? That’s universal. You have 100% of the audience going, ‘I’m in, that’s a constitutional right as an American, I’m in, yes!’” McConaughey said.

“And then they can’t help themselves. At the very end of it, they go, ‘So we don’t let those criminal b*stards get back in office.’ You’re going, ‘Whoa!’ You’re like, no, don’t say the last part. You lost 50% of your audience,” he continued. “And that’s part of why so much of the nation, of that 50%, looks at us in Hollywood as, like, going, ‘Oh, yeah, another celebrity over there, and the West Coasters, and the elite in the Northeast.’”

“From just a sales point of view, don’t tab that gotcha on the end, and then you have, your audience is twice as big and you’re getting what you want,” McConaughey said.

During an appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast in October, McConaughey said that along with antipathy toward conservatives, many in Hollywood carry a bias against Christians, as well.

“I have had — and I won’t throw any people under the bus — but I have had moments where I was on stage receiving an award in front of my peers in Hollywood, and there were people in the crowd that I have prayed with before dinners many times, and when I thanked God, I saw some of those people go to clap, but then notice that, ‘bad thing on my resume’ and then sit back on their hands,” McConaughey said.
