Meghan McCain announced she supports the impeachment of President Trump on the same day that it readily appeared that Democrats would not have the votes to convict him in the U.S. Senate.
Speaking on “The View” Tuesday, McCain said she still believes in the principles of the Republican Party after the ascendancy of President Trump.
“I mean, I’m a lifelong conservative, unlike a lot of these heretics,” McCain griped. “I mean, I was born into this, raised into it. It’s my whole entire life in all ways, and I truly at the bottom of my soul, I think, as all of you know, I believe in the principles that I was raised on.”
“It’s deeply embarrassing and it’s hard for me to reconcile with, but what’s also hard to reconcile with, the language that’s being used, that, ‘We can’t even talk to all of you ― if you voted for Trump, you’re irredeemable masses,’” she said.
Going forward, McCain said the Republican Party would be better served if they impeached President Trump, drawing a line on what the president can or cannot do.
“I believe President Trump should be impeached,” she said. “I believe we have to take a stand and have a fine line about what is acceptable for a president to do or not. He incited a riot, people got violent, people died, full stop.”

As The Daily Wire reported, only five Republican Senators joined with the Democrats on Tuesday in allowing President Trump’s impeachment trial to go forward, strongly indicating that the Democrats will not have the 67 votes necessary to convict him. During a speech on the Senate floor, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) severely criticized Democrats for accusing Trump of inciting violence while calling attention to the many times Democrats could have been accused of the exact same thing.
“This sham of an impeachment will ostensibly ask whether the President incited the reprehensible behavior and violence of January 6 when he said, ‘I know everyone here will soon march to the Capitol to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard. ‘Peacefully’ and ‘patriotically,’” said Paul. “Hardly words of violence. But what of Democrat words? What of Democrat incitement to violence? No Democrat will honestly ask whether Bernie Sanders incited the shooter that nearly killed Steve Scalise and volunteer coach. The shooter nearly pulled off a massacre. I was there. Because he fervently believed the false inflammatory rhetoric spurred by Bernie and other Democrats such as ‘The Republican healthcare plan for the uninsured is that you die.’”
“Ask me or anyone if that’s incitement. No Democrat will ask whether Cory Booker incited violence when he called for his supporters to ‘get up in their face’ of Congresspeople, a very visual and specific incitement,” he continued. ” No Democrat will ask whether Maxine Waters incited violence when she literally told her supporters, and I quote, ‘that if you see a member of the Trump administration at a restaurant, at a department store, at a gas station or any place, you create a crowd and you push back on them.’ Is that not incitement?”
