A New York woman who claimed she was raped by a stranger has been arrested and charged with filing a false police report, as well as performing a sexual act with a boy under the age of 17.
News 10 reported that 59-year-old Dawn Budelman of Stockport, New York, told police that a man had entered her home and forcibly raped her on February 28. The Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit immediately began an extensive investigation into her claims, which “included multiple interviews, collection of evidence and an examination at Columbia Memorial Hospital,” the outlet reported.
The unit eventually concluded that no forcible rape had occurred. Instead, police learned that Budelman “had consented to a sexual act with a minor male under the age of 17,” News 10 reported. In other words, statutory rape. Had Budelman been a man, police and media outlets would have used the term “rape” and not “consented to.”
Budelman now faces charges of third-degree rape for “engaging in sexual intercourse with a person who is less than 17 years old” (a Class E felony), endangering the welfare of a child (a Class A misdemeanor), and two additional Class A misdemeanors: falsely reporting an incident in the third degree and making a punishable false written statement.
WRGB reported that “Budelman was arraigned before the Town of Stockport Judge, Malcolm Smalley, and released on her own recognizance. Budelman is due to return to court on May 3, 2021 at 6:00PM.”
Budelman’s case is not unique. Just last week a woman accused a man of raping her to cover up her own sexual misconduct.
As The Daily Wire previously reported, 32-year-old Taressa Jolene Browning accused a male inmate she was supposed to be helping of raping her when in reality, she pressured him into sex and made the accusations when she was questioned about her conduct. Browning had worked for Progress House, a company contracted by Washington state to operate the Peninsula Work Release facility. More from The Daily Wire:
In that role, she met an inmate – who has not been named – and, according to prosecutors, began pressuring the man into having sex with her. The man reportedly did not want to have sex with Browning and feared she could send him back to prison if he didn’t submit. It was not the victim who reported Browning, but a different inmate, the Sun reported.
“He didn’t snitch, he isn’t a snitch,” Deputy Prosecutor Ben Turner told Judge Michelle Adams of the victim. “It was a different inmate who thwarted this.”
Detectives confronted Browning with the allegations. Initially, she said she did not have sex with the inmate, but when detectives said they would search her vehicle, she accused the inmate of raping her.
Browning last month pleaded guilty to “first-degree custodial sexual misconduct, second-degree extortion, malicious prosecution and attempted first-degree sexual misconduct,” the Kitsap Sun reported.
