The Senate has started reviewing dozens of amendments brought forward during the coronavirus relief debate. Lawmakers in the upper chamber are back on Capitol Hill Friday, following a late night reading of the entire 630-page relief bill.

Senators have begun the vote-a-rama as they formally bring amendments to the nearly $2 trillion package. It is uncertain how long the vote-a-rama will last, as any Senator could head to the floor with amendments. This could possibly stretch the session throughout the weekend.

“Republicans have many ideas to improve the bill. Many ideas, and we’re about to vote on all kinds of amendments in the hopes that some of these ideas make it into the final product,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) stated. “We’re going to try to improve the bill. The millions who elected 50 Republican senators will have their voices heard loud and clear.”

Democrats are trying to push the bill to Joe Biden’s desk before several COVID programs expire on March 14.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said that GOP members of the Senate will use every tool at their disposal to reveal the massive $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill as a massive giveaway.
